Recently, a contract worth $190 million was finalized for the Rumaila oil field in Iraq. China Petroleum Engineering Construction Corporation has successfully won the dehydration project of the oilfield, with a construction period of 3 years. The owner is a joint venture company jointly established by PetroChina and BP. In the high temperatures and sandstorms of the desert, this cooperation will build new crude oil dehydration facilities to inject new support into the stable production of Iraq's main oil fields.

190 million US dollars in pocket

The contract amount won by China Petroleum Engineering Construction Corporation this time is 190 million US dollars, with a construction period of 3 years. The owner is a joint venture company jointly established by PetroChina and BP, with the two major energy giants serving as the joint owners, demanding extremely high standards for engineering construction and project management. Rumaila Oilfield is one of the main oil fields with the highest production in Iraq, with a prominent strategic position. Winning this bid section is a recognition of China's petroleum engineering construction capabilities and performance reputation by the owner.

Dehydration facilities ensure stable production

The core work of the project is to build a new crude oil dehydration facility in the Rumaila oilfield, which includes a crude oil separation system, a crude oil processing system, and all supporting ancillary projects. Dehydration of crude oil is an essential part of the oil and gas extraction chain. Newly extracted crude oil is mixed with a large amount of formation water. If not separated and treated in a timely manner, high water content crude oil will corrode pipelines and equipment, affecting subsequent storage, transportation, and refining processes. With the continuous exploitation of the oil field, the water content of crude oil in Rumaila Oilfield has been increasing year by year, and the original processing facilities are gradually under pressure, approaching the upper limit of processing capacity. After the completion and operation of the new dehydration system, it will ensure the stable maintenance of a daily processing capacity of 320000 barrels of crude oil in the oilfield, stabilize the core production capacity of the oilfield, and support the stable export of Iraqi crude oil. Full chain EPC delivery

The project adopts an integrated EPC and operation and maintenance model, and the winning bidder is responsible for the entire chain of work from scheme design, equipment procurement, on-site construction, system debugging, personnel operation training, and later operation and maintenance services. Unlike simple construction subcontracting, this turnkey model tests the comprehensive engineering strength of enterprise integration. It requires a thorough understanding of oilfield process design, ensuring stable equipment operation, and providing long-term technical support. It belongs to the high technical threshold of oil and gas surface engineering. The Rumaila oil field in Iraq is located in a desert area, where high temperatures, sandstorms, and saline alkali environments pose severe challenges to equipment materials, anti-corrosion processes, and on-site construction organization. China Petroleum Engineering Construction Corporation has been rooted in the oil and gas markets of Iraq and multiple Middle Eastern countries for many years, familiar with local desert construction conditions, labor regulations, and local approval processes. It has accumulated a large amount of experience in the construction of similar oilfield processing facilities, which is also the core confidence for the company to continuously win high-quality orders in the local area.Editor/Gao Xue
