On November 6, 2026, Ignitis Renewables, a renewable energy platform under Lithuanian energy group Ignitis, officially completed the commercial operation of the Tume photovoltaic power station in Latvia. This 173.6 MW power station is one of the largest photovoltaic projects in the Baltic region to date, and after being connected to the grid, it directly boosted the total installed capacity of green energy operated by the Ignitis Group from 2.1 GW to 2.3 GW.
302 hectares of large-scale power station landed in the Baltic Sea
The Tume power station is located in the town of Tukums, Latvia. The total investment of the project is up to 106 million euros, covering an area of 302 hectares. More than 282000 solar panels are installed on site, and the annual power generation can meet the daily electricity needs of about 85000 households. This is also the third large-scale solar power plant to be put into operation by Igntis Renewables in Latvia. Prior to this, the 94MW V ā rme power plant was put into operation in July 2025, and the 145MW Stelpe power plant was put into operation in September 2025. The total installed capacity of the three power plants has exceeded 400MW.

Unlike most previous distributed photovoltaic projects in the Baltic region, Tume power station is one of the few large-scale ground photovoltaic projects developed in a contiguous manner in the area, directly elevating the individual scale of centralized photovoltaics in Latvia to a whole new level. For the first time, the project fully adopts a solar tracking bracket system, and all photovoltaic panels can move according to the angle of the sun during the day, significantly improving the overall power generation efficiency compared to fixed bracket projects. At the same time, the entire operation and maintenance process of the project is fully undertaken by Ignitis' internal professional team, changing the previous model of relying on external service providers and consolidating the core capabilities of long-term power plant operation within the enterprise.
By 2028, the integration of light and storage capabilities will be achieved
The 107.2MW/214.5MWh battery energy storage system synchronously planned next to the power station site, with an independent investment of approximately 35 million euros, is planned to be officially put into commercial operation in 2028. This energy storage system will share the same grid connection point with Tume Photovoltaic Power Station, without the need for additional grid connection channels. It can store the surplus photovoltaic power generated during the noon period and smoothly release it back to the grid during the evening peak electricity consumption period.
This arrangement significantly increases the proportion of on-site consumption of green electricity and makes the entire project no longer just a simple power output unit, but also has the ability to flexibly support the power grid. Keywords: Photovoltaic, New Energy News

According to the overall plan of Ignitis Group, the green and flexible adjustment of installed capacity should be increased to the range of 4GW to 5GW by 2030. As the group's first fully integrated photovoltaic and energy storage benchmark, Tume project not only contributes 173.6MW of new power generation capacity, but also sets a replicable development path for dozens of similar projects in the future through triple exploration of tracking bracket technology, internal operation and maintenance system, and supporting energy storage layout.Editor/Cheng Liting
