In order to improve the overall development level of roads in Romania, on July 31, 2020, PowerChina signed a contract with the Zalau ring road project in Romania under the brand SINOHYDRO. This is the first design and construction project that a Chinese-funded engineering contracting company has bid for and officially undertaken in Romania.

The project is located in Zalau, about 550 kilometers northwest of Romania’s capital, Bucharest. It starts at the roundabout at DN 1F 79+625 and runs along a coastal road from south to west. The design and construction period is 30 months. It is a project supported by the EU Large Infrastructure Operation Plan Fund, with a total contract value of approximately US$53 million.

The total length of the line is 5.5km, two-way four-lane, and the design speed is 60 to 80 kilometers per hour. It crosses multiple valleys and vineyards through 5 viaducts and 2 river-crossing bridges. Among them, a slow lane will be built for 1.4km. The width of the roadbed in this section is 13.5 meters, the width of the rest of the roadbed is 10 meters, and the surface width of the single-vehicle road is 7 meters.

Under the guidance of the Belt and Road Initiative, the cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries has continued to deepen. As one of the world’s top design companies and one of the most powerful engineering contractors, PowerChina has taken the initiative to take the lead and unite local companies to withstand the international political economy. The pressure of the severe situation and the increasingly fierce competition in the industry has overcome the adverse effects brought about by the spread of the global new crown pneumonia epidemic. Full preparatory work and detailed planning and research have been carried out on the project. After strict review and multiple rounds of clarification by the owner, In the end, he won the bid earlier this month and signed the contract smoothly.

PowerChina is currently the only Chinese-funded engineering contractor that has signed a contract in Romania. In the next step, under the premise of continuing to normalize epidemic prevention and control, it will promote the development of the project in an orderly manner to ensure that the project is on schedule Landing.
