On the morning of November 30, 2020, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Jiangbei section of Wuhan Metro Line 12 was held at Zhongyi Road Station in Jiang'an District, marking the start of Wuhan’s first and only independent metro loop line.

Line 2 is all underground. The section crosses the Yangtze River twice, Hanjiang River once, and lakes (Moshu Lake and Shahu Lake) twice. 22 stations are located on the first terraces of the Yangtze River, and 52 stations pass through existing railways and subways. , Municipal bridges, 37% of the main line sections need to pass through complex plots such as densely-built areas, and 70% of stations interchange with existing or planned lines. The main line involves karst stations and 10 sections with a total length of approximately 14.01 kilometers. The geological conditions of the line are complex, and the construction difficulty is rare in the country.

The entire line of No. 12 is divided into two projects, Wuchang and Jiangbei (Hankou section and Hanyang section). Among them, the Wuchang section has been fully started on March 30 this year and is expected to be completed and opened to traffic at the end of 2024; Jiangbei section is scheduled to open for trial operation at the end of 2025.Editor/Luo Wentao
