On December 22, 2020, in the Hangzhou Bay New Area, the offshore drilling of the Tongsu-Jiaong-Ningbo Railway was officially launched, marking the control project of the Tongsu-Jiaong-Ningbo Railway—Hangzhou Bay Cross-sea, which was surveyed and designed by the China Railway Bridge Institute of the Central Enterprise in Han Dynasty and the China Railway Engineering Consortium. The railway bridge drilling has started in full swing.

The Tong-Su-Jia-Yong Railway is an important part of the coastal railway passenger transport channel of the national "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed railway network. It is the backbone of the intercity railway network of the Yangtze River Delta city group and a landmark project for the construction of the Greater Bay Area in Zhejiang Province. It is also an important carrier for Ningbo to open up the north-bound high-speed rail channel and deeply integrate into the integrated development of the Yangtze Delta.

The project starts from Nantong West Station in Nantong City, crosses the Yangtze River, crosses Hangzhou Bay after passing through Suzhou City and Jiaxing City, and leads to Ningbo Hub via Cixi City. The operating length of the main line of the whole line is 310km, of which the newly-built line length is 301km, with 10 stations including Nantong West, Zhangjiagang, Changshu West, Suzhou North, Fenhu, Jiaxing North, Jiaxing South, Haiyan West, Cixi, and Zhuangqiao. The total investment is about 107 billion yuan. The operating length of the Zhejiang section is 174km, the length of the newly built line is 166km (93km in Jiaxing City and 73km in Ningbo City). The total investment in Zhejiang Section is about 62.1 billion yuan and the design speed is 350 kilometers per hour. One of the control projects-the Cross-Hangzhou Bay Railway Bridge, with a total length of 29.2 kilometers, is located in the waters of Hangzhou Bay, one of the three strong tide bays in the world, with poor construction conditions.

After the completion of the Tongsu Jiayong Railway, it will greatly shorten the time and space distance between Ningbo and Shanghai, Suzhou, Beijing and other places, reduce travel time and travel costs, and is expected to realize the "1 hour traffic circle" from Ningbo to Suzhou and Shanghai, and 5 hours from Ningbo to Beijing. , Bringing great convenience to citizens along the route.
