On December 22, 2020, the consortium led by Energy China signed the EPC contract for the Mapanuepe 500 MW pumped storage power plant project in the Philippines in the form of a cloud contract. The grantor of Mapanuepe 500MW Pumped Storage Power Plant Project in the Philippines.
The consortium includes China Energy Construction International Corporation, Guangxi Engineering Bureau and Yangtze River International Engineering Design Company.
The project is located near Mapa Naipo Lake, Castillejos Town, Subic City, Zambales Province, Luzon, Philippines, with a total installed capacity of 500 MW. The power station hub is mainly composed of upper reservoir, lower reservoir, water delivery system, underground powerhouse and ground switch station.
As a major project constructed by the Department of Energy of the Philippine Government to implement the national power development plan and support the national economic development. After the completion of the power station, the power supply structure was further optimized in Subic City, Zambales Province, Luzon Island, Philippines, and the power supply quality was improved. Ensuring the safe and stable operation of the power grid has a significant effect and will lay a solid foundation for local clean energy development and ecological environment protection.
This project is the first large-scale pumped storage power generation project signed by China International Corporation in the Philippines. The signing of the project has achieved sustainable development in the Philippine market and laid a foundation for further consolidating and expanding the advantages of hydropower and water conservancy projects in the Philippine market. This is also another breakthrough that Energy China has made in implementing the Belt and Road Initiative and helping to build a China-ASEAN community with a shared future.
Mapanepo Hydropower Company has extensive experience in renewable energy development in the Philippines. In the future, three pumped-storage power stations will be built near Mapa Naipo Lake to ease the peak-shaving demand of the local power grid.Editor/Huang Lijun
