Samsung Engineering announced that it has won a $1.23 billion Jafurah Natural Gas Process Package 1 contract from Saudi oil giant Aramco, which is the country's first shale gas development project. The project is part of the Jafurah shale gas field development project located 400 kilometers east of the capital Riyadh, and is expected to be completed in 2025.

Samsung Engineering will build a gas treatment facility to remove sulfur and other substances from 1.1 billion cubic feet of gas every day. The goal of the project is to produce shale gas, natural gas liquids (NGL), ethane, sulfur and stabilized condensate. It is planned to build and complete the project independently. It added that the scope of work includes a slug trap, acid gas, NGL and mercury removal device.
