The construction of improved roads connecting Algeria and Mauritania is about to begin. The 773 km road connection will improve the traffic between Tindouf, Algeria, and Zolat, Mauritania.

The 75 km long route through Algeria has been completed. The work of the border post will be completed in 2023. The rest of the route will be studied. Whether this route will bypass the most direct route through the disputed territory of Western Sahara and remain in Algeria and Mauritania remains to be revealed.

Tindouf is located in the southwest of Algeria, close to the country's borders with Mauritania, Morocco and the disputed territory of Western Sahara. At the same time, Zolat is the largest city in northern Mauritania.

The project is funded by Algeria, and an Algerian company will also handle the 10-year concession package of the route. The project is one of several important projects to promote connectivity, international transport and trade between North Africa and West Africa.Editor/Xing Wentao
