In recent years, Gansu Province has continued to promote the new energy+coal power+ultra-high voltage development model in Hexi Corridor in accordance with the goal of strengthening the planning and construction of new energy supply and consumption system.

Ma Jun, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Gansu Power Investment Changle Power Generation Co., Ltd., introduced that new energy is an unstable power source. When there is wind, there is wind power, and when there is sun, there is solar energy. But when there is no wind or sun, thermal power can provide strong support for the power grid.

While building Jiuquan 10 million Kilopower wind power base and Qishao (Jiuquan, Gansu Hunan Xiangtan) ± 800 kilovolt High-voltage direct current line, Gansu Province plans to support the regulation of new energy and secure supply through clean, efficient, advanced and energy-saving coal power energy, and invest more than 20 billion yuan to build the only peak shaving thermal power source of Qishao DC - Gansu Power Investment Changle Power Plant 4 × 1000 MW Thermal Power Project and Expansion 2 × 1000 MW peak shaving thermal power project.

It is reported that since the completion and grid connection of Units 1 and 2 of Changle Power Plant, the maximum power transmission of Qishao DC has increased from 4 million kilowatts to 6 million kilowatts, and the annual proportion of new energy transmission has increased by more than 10%. The annual utilization rate of supporting new energy has reached over 95%. In 2023, units 3 and 4 of Changle Power Plant will be completed and put into operation. The four units can drive 40 billion kilowatt hours of electric energy from the Hexi Corridor area to Central China through the Qishao DC cross provincial transmission, of which the new energy transmission will reach 16 billion kilowatt hours, promoting the base and large-scale development of new energy in the Hexi Corridor, and also providing strong support for the realization of the goal of "double carbon" in the central and eastern regions.

With the start of construction of Units 5 and 6 this year, by 2025, after all 6 units of Changle Power Plant are completed and put into operation, the new energy supply and consumption system in the Hexi Corridor will continue to improve, further accelerate the export of green electricity, achieve the generation, supply, and good use of new energy, and help achieve the dual carbon goal.
