On August 9, 2023, a reporter from Jiandao Network learned from Tianjin Rail Transit Group that the first group of retaining structure construction piles at Jinghua Dongdao Station were successfully drilled, marking the official start of the Tianjin Metro Line 5 adjustment project.

This project is an extension of the existing Metro Line 5, starting from Liqizhuang South Station and extending southwest to Jinghua East Road Station. It has a total length of about 1.3 kilometers and is equipped with one Jinghua East Road Station. After completion and opening to traffic, the Jinjing Suburban Railway and Line 5 can achieve the same platform transfer at Jinghua East Road Station and also have the conditions for continuous operation. It is an important throat project for the interconnection between the Jinjing Suburban Railway and the central urban rail transit.

To ensure that the adjustment project of Tianjin Metro Line 5 is synchronized with the opening and operation of the first section of the Jinjing Suburban Railway, a special working group has been established by the Subway Group affiliated with Tianjin Rail Transit Group. The group actively communicates with relevant departments in Tianjin one by one, handles various preliminary procedures, and conducts multiple rounds of on-site surveys in advance to investigate the temporary land occupation, landscaping, access roads, municipal pipelines, and operation site sections involved in construction along the line Solve key and difficult issues to ensure that work can proceed quickly after completing the bidding process for the construction unit. Since the issuance of the bid winning notice in late June, Metro Group has quickly organized participating units to "run and enter", accelerating the signing of contracts, site enclosure, construction of access roads, access to temporary water and electricity, construction of project departments, and entry of personnel, mechanical equipment, and raw materials, laying a solid foundation for the smooth commencement of construction.

It is understood that the first section of the suburban railway in Jinjing City has a total length of about 13.4 kilometers, passing through the administrative regions of Jinghai and Xiqing, with three stations: International Medical City Station, Tuanbo West Station, and Jingwu Station. The first section of the project is expected to have the conditions for vehicle online joint debugging and testing by the end of 2023, and will be put into trial operation in the first half of 2024.
