Nepal has actively responded to the the Belt and Road Initiative, and China Nepal cooperation has ushered in a new milestone. Recently, Nepalese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Andres Schleista said that Nepal and China will soon sign the implementation plan of the the Belt and Road Initiative. Previously, China and Nepal signed a memorandum of understanding on the Belt and Road cooperation in 2017, and signing an implementation plan will be the key to negotiating and implementing projects under the the Belt and Road Initiative.

On January 27, 2024, during his speech at the Silk Road Youth Forum and South Asian Cooperation Conference in Kathmandu, Shresta revealed. "Once we sign the implementation plan, we will enter the implementation phase." However, Shresta did not disclose specific details or dates.

China's support for key infrastructure construction such as roads, bridges, and energy projects has played an important role in promoting economic growth and stability in Nepal. The connectivity promoted through these projects not only strengthens bilateral relations, but also helps to achieve a broader vision of regional cooperation and integration.

Schleista further pointed out that China's the Belt and Road initiative has become a key reform force in shaping the economic pattern of South Asia. It emphasizes connectivity, infrastructure construction and economic cooperation, which "coincides with the development aspirations of countries in the region".

The the Belt and Road Initiative is not only about building roads and bridges, but also about opening the way for common prosperity. The economic corridor it envisions may open up new markets, promote trade, and stimulate economic growth. "For countries like Nepal located in the hinterland of the Himalayas, these measures offer the possibility of strengthening connectivity and changing the economic landscape," said Schresta

He mentioned that this cooperation is not only reflected in the economic aspect, but also covers multiple fields such as culture, education, technology, etc., demonstrating the breadth and depth of the relationship between the two countries. In addition, Schresta emphasized the importance of ancient and traditional respect, understanding, and cooperation in Nepal China relations. He believes that this cooperative approach based on mutual respect and understanding has laid a solid foundation for the long-term development of bilateral relations. Editor/Zhao E
