The natural gas pipeline project around the Tarim Basin has recently started comprehensive construction in Xinjiang. It is planned to build a new natural gas transmission pipeline with a total length of 2,108 kilometers in batches to create a large energy channel surrounding the Tarim Basin and promote the high-quality development of Xinjiang's economy with clean energy.

Kuqa City in Xinjiang, as the starting point of the project, will implement this major project in three batches. The first batch of pipelines to be constructed has a total length of 616 kilometers, with an estimated daily gas transmission capacity of 11 million cubic meters, and is scheduled to be fully completed in 2025. The project will be promoted simultaneously in two east-west routes. After completion, it will connect 9 counties and cities in Kashgar, Aksu, Bazhou and other places, greatly increasing the gas supply capacity in southern Xinjiang from the current 27 million cubic meters to 58 million cubic meters. .

Chang Guichuan, head of the Oil and Gas Transportation and Marketing Department of PetroChina Tarim Oilfield, said that with the completion of the first batch of projects, pipeline construction in Kashgar, Hotan and other places will also start in due course, forming a ring network gas supply pattern surrounding the Tarim Basin, which will provide economic benefits to southern Xinjiang. Chang Guichuan further pointed out that after the project is fully completed, the gasification pipeline network in Southern Xinjiang will be upgraded from a "C-shaped" to an "O-shaped" pipeline network. The overall project expansion pipeline has a total length of nearly 5,000 kilometers and is expected to cover 24 counties and cities in northern and southern Xinjiang and 52 regiments of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, benefiting a population of 11 million.
