On April 19, 2024, Kazakhstani Prime Minister Olzas Bekhtenov visited the site and witnessed the successful completion of the equity delivery ceremony for the Kazakhstan polyethylene project by Sinopec and Kazakhstan National Oil and Gas Company in Astana.

Sinopec has officially become a shareholder of the project and has obtained 30% equity from other partners.

The project is located in the Karabadan Economic Zone of Atyrau Oblast, Kazakhstan, with the aim of constructing a polyethylene plant with an annual production capacity of 1.25 million tons using ethane raw materials separated from the largest oilfield in Kazakhstan, the Tengiz oilfield. The project adopts international advanced technology licensing technology and can produce about 22 types of polyethylene products with high market demand, which will be widely used in multiple industries such as packaging, automotive parts, and building materials. It is understood that the project is currently in a critical stage of expanding basic design, and it is expected that the shareholders will complete the final investment decision within 2024.
