On May 9, 2024, the middle reaches of the Duoxiong Zangbo River in Qiuwo Township, Angren County, Shigatse City, Tibet Autonomous Region witnessed the successful closure of the Tibet Pazi Water Conservancy Project and supporting irrigation area projects. With the roar of muck trucks and bulldozers, earth and rocks poured down, and the reservoir cofferdam slowly closed, marking the formal transition of this important project into the main construction stage.

The Pazi Water Conservancy Project and supporting irrigation area project is a comprehensive project, consisting of a hub project, a water supply project and an supporting irrigation area project. The entire project is expected to be completed within 66 months. The total reservoir capacity of this project reaches 375 million cubic meters, the normal water storage level is 4325 meters, the designed irrigation area covers 42,800 acres of farmland, and the installed capacity of the power station reaches 58 megawatts.

Lou Xufeng, project leader of the Tibet Pazi Water Conservancy Hub and supporting irrigation area project of China Hydropower Bureau Co., Ltd., said that many challenges were faced during the interception process, including large flow, fast flow rate, deep mouth of the spout, high river bed water level, large interception drop, and site Narrowness and other issues. However, through the team's careful planning and joint dispatch, as well as various innovative measures such as optimizing and adjusting the discharge flow rate, the engineering team successfully overcame these difficulties and ensured that the flow closure was carried out smoothly as scheduled.

According to the relevant person in charge of the Shigatse Water Conservancy Bureau, the completion of the Pazi Water Conservancy Project and the supporting irrigation area project will have a profound impact on the local area. First of all, it will effectively alleviate the water shortage problem of spring drought and winter drought in irrigated areas and provide stable and reliable water source guarantee for agricultural production. Secondly, the project will provide a reliable source of drinking water to Angren County and improve the living conditions of local residents. In addition, the project will also develop local water energy resources to provide power support for five counties and districts in Shigatse City, basically solving the problem of power shortage in winter.

The successful interception and transfer of the Pazi Water Conservancy Project and supporting irrigation area project to the main project construction stage not only reflects the strong strength of China's water conservancy construction, but also demonstrates my country's technical capabilities and innovative spirit in water conservancy construction in plateau areas.
