Between the valleys, an East African style roller compacted concrete dam is about to take shape. Relying on this water conservancy hub, the local water supply and irrigation shortcomings are expected to be filled, and Chinese enterprises are simultaneously laying out water plant projects. The construction opportunities of the entire water industry chain are being differentiated and circulated.
The project construction is nearing completion
Eric Mugaa, Minister of Water Resources, Health and Irrigation of Kenya, confirmed during his inspection of the Mwachi Multipurpose Dam project in Kwale County that 94% of the flagship water conservancy project has been completed. The project is constructed by China Electric Power Construction Corporation and is the first roller compacted concrete gravity dam in East Africa. After completion, the water supply will benefit over 1.6 million residents. The overall progress does not equal the availability of water storage for operation. The remaining projects are mostly related to supporting pipelines and final debugging. The operation time shall be subject to the official announcement.

The water supply chain continues to expand
The Mwachi Dam is located on the Mwachi River and is a core project of Kenya's coastal water supply strategy. The World Bank and the Kenyan government jointly invest to balance water supply and agricultural irrigation. The construction of the dam body is nearing completion, and the financing for the water transmission pipeline is progressing slowly. The shortcomings in the supporting facilities are restricting the release of benefits. China Electric Power Construction also signed a contract for a nearby water plant project, forming an integrated layout of water storage, purification, and transmission. The pipeline project is separately contracted by the Kenyan side. Keywords: China Electric Power Construction, Kenya, Water Engineering

Segmented opportunities with clear differentiation
The bulk procurement window for the main body of the dam is closed, and the demand for maintenance spare parts is limited. The construction of a new water plant is in the early stage, and there is room for procurement of water treatment equipment. Suppliers need to be separately connected and approved. The water pipeline belongs to other owners for bidding and needs to be tracked separately. The three types of orders belong to different entities and cannot be confused.Editor/Gong Ziwei
