On May 13, 2024, a grand opening ceremony was held for the Dongyuan Reservoir Project in Pingxiang City, Jiangxi Province. Xiong Yunlang, deputy secretary of the Pingxiang Municipal Party Committee and mayor, visited the site and announced the start of the project, which marked another solid step in the high-quality development of water conservancy in Pingxiang City.

Dongyuan Reservoir is located in Chishan Town, Shangli County, Pingxiang City. The total storage capacity of the reservoir reaches 12.99 million cubic meters, and the total investment in the project is as high as 1.084 billion yuan. This medium-sized reservoir project has flood control and industrial water supply as its main functions. It also takes into account comprehensive utilization such as ecological environment improvement, providing strong support for rural revitalization.

It is reported that the construction period of the Dongyuan Reservoir project is 26 months, and the water storage acceptance of the lower gate is expected to be completed in July 2026. After the project is completed, it will significantly improve the flood control and dredging capabilities of the main urban area of Pingxiang City and effectively ensure the industrial water demand in the border areas of Hunan and Jiangxi. In addition, the creation of ecological landscapes in the reservoir area will also create unique cultural tourism resources for the local area, further promote the development of villages around the reservoir, and achieve optimal utilization of resources and economic prosperity.

The start of construction of this important project not only demonstrates Pingxiang City's determination and strength in water conservancy construction, but also injects new vitality into the sustainable development of the local and surrounding areas.
