On May 18, 2024, the Zhongneng Offshore Wind Farm in Taiwan, China, has successfully completed the installation of its first offshore wind turbine, a major milestone achieved by Fred. Olsen Windcarrier's jack-up wind installation vessel Bold Tern.

The Middle Energy Offshore Wind Farm is a major project jointly developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and China Steel Corporation (CSC). It is located in Changhua County on Taiwan's west coast, approximately 13 km from the coast, and is expected to have a total installed capacity of 298MW. To achieve this, the project plans to deploy 31 wind turbines of 174-9.6MW from Vestas. The construction of this offshore wind farm will mark an important advance in Taiwan's renewable energy sector. Scheduled for completion by the end of this year, the wind farm will generate 1.15 billion KWH of green electricity per year and reduce carbon emissions by 550,000 tons.

The Bold Tern is a massive 132 m long and 45 m wide vessel designed to operate in a maximum water depth of 60 m. The ship was successfully built in 2013 and has a strong carrying capacity, able to accommodate 80 people at a time. It is equipped with an advanced DP2 dynamic positioning system to ensure stability and accuracy in complex Marine environments. In order to meet the growing installation needs, Bold Tern has also undergone a crane upgrade and is now equipped with a 1,600t LEC 65500 pile winding crane from Huisman, a powerful piece of equipment that will greatly improve the efficiency and safety of wind power installations.Editor/Zhang Liyuan
