On May 21, 2024, the Shajiao Peninsula section of the Binhai Bay New Area of the much-anticipated third phase of Dongguan Rail Transit Line 2 officially entered the construction stage. The start of this major transportation project marks the further expansion of Dongguan's rail transit network, injecting new vitality into the transportation links between the main urban area, Binhai Bay New Area and Humen Town.

As a natural extension of the already operating Phases 1 and 2 of Line 2, the Phase 3 project will connect the main urban area with the rapidly developing Marina Bay New Area, forming an important passenger flow corridor. The entire third phase of the project starts from Humen Railway Station and ends at Jiaoyiwan Station, with a total length of 17.1 kilometers and a total of 9 stations along the way. Among them, the Humen area will have 4 stations, namely Humen North Station, Humen Avenue Station, Humen Jinjie Road Station and Humen Guangming Road Station; while the Binhai Bay New Section will have 5 stations, including Binhai Bay Station, Qingdao Station Chuangcheng Station, Hong Kong and Macau Ferry Terminal Station, Jiao Yi Wan West Station and Jiao Yi Wan Station. This section of the line is about 7.3 kilometers long.

The Sha Kok Peninsula section that was first started this time covers 3 stations and 2 sections, namely Marina Bay Station, Youth Innovation City Station, Hong Kong and Macau Ferry Terminal Station, and the section from Marina Bay Station to Youth Innovation City Station, and Youth Innovation City Station to Hong Kong and Macau. In the terminal station section, the total length of the line is 3.048 kilometers. It is particularly worth mentioning that shield tunneling technology was used in the section from Binhai Bay Station to Qingchuangchuang City Station. In order to ensure the smooth progress of the construction, the construction of the shield receiving shaft was affected in the early stage for 5 houses totaling 16,507.2 square meters at the north end of the Ningzhou River. With the joint efforts of many parties, the contract signing and demolition have been successfully completed.

In the future, Marina Bay Station will become a comprehensive transportation hub, achieving seamless transfer with Shenzhen-Maoming High-speed Railway, Dongguan Line 3, Shenzhen Line 20 and Guangzhou Line 22. The construction of this transportation hub will greatly shorten the distance between Shajiao Peninsula and Dongguan and even the entire Pearl River Delta region, promote inter-regional exchanges and cooperation, jointly build a one-hour living circle in the Pearl River Delta, and promote regional economic prosperity and development.Editor/Cheng Ting
