On June 14, 2024, in order to deeply utilize the potential of rooftop PV to optimize the energy structure, enhance the effect of energy conservation and emission reduction, and achieve sustainable and healthy development of the economy, the Chongqing Development and Reform Commission and the Energy Bureau jointly issued a formal notice of the "Chongqing million kilowatt rooftop PV construction Plan (2024-2025)". The move aims to accelerate the construction process of rooftop photovoltaic projects in Chongqing and inject new impetus into the steady development of the photovoltaic industry.

The notice clearly states that from May 2024 to July 2025, the planned new installed capacity of rooftop PV will exceed 1 million kilowatts, bringing the cumulative installed capacity to 2 million kilowatts. By 2025, the rooftop photovoltaic coverage of new plants in the city will be significantly increased and is expected to exceed 50%. Rooftop photovoltaics will fully cover all villages in the city to achieve the popularization of green energy in rural areas. The rooftop photovoltaic coverage of public buildings in the city will also strive to reach 30% to further promote the application and development of urban green energy.

The project plans to add more than 1,000 MW of rooftop PV installed capacity in the next year and a half, with a cumulative capacity of 2,000 MW, significantly optimizing the energy mix and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. At the same time, through the wide application of rooftop photovoltaics, it is expected to achieve significant energy saving and emission reduction effects, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and help achieve green development goals.Editor/Zhang Liyuan
