On July 5, 2025, the first station distributed photovoltaic power generation project of Wenzhou rail transit officially started.The project is implemented by the asset company of the Municipal Railway Investment Group, using the idle roofs of some elevated stations, working shafts and control center buildings of rail transit lines S1 and S2, and installing distributed photovoltaic systems, with a total installed capacity of 8.13MWp. After the completion of the project, it is expected to generate an average of 7,304,800 kWh of electricity per year, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 6,800 tons per year.

By overcoming the compatibility problems of the photovoltaic power generation system and the urban rail transit power supply network in terms of voltage level, current characteristics, operation mode, etc., the project realizes the stable and coordinated operation of the two, ensures the traditional power supply demand, and realizes the efficient utilization of clean energy, forming a sustainable development model of "photovoltaic + rail".

The commencement of construction of the distributed photovoltaic power generation project of Wenzhou rail transit station has injected new momentum into the realization of Wenzhou's "double carbon" goal of speeding up and increasing efficiency and the development of urban green transportation. After the completion of the project, it will effectively reduce the energy cost of rail transit operation, help optimize and upgrade the energy structure, and create a replicable and promotable "photovoltaic + rail" innovation model, providing a "Wenzhou model" for the integrated development of urban rail transit and clean energy.

At present, a number of rail + photovoltaic projects have been implemented in Zhejiang.
