The largest water-based photovoltaic project in Shanxi Province, China, has been connected to the grid for 40 days, generating 18 million kWh of electricity and reducing 157000 tons of carbon dioxide annually, ushering in a new paradigm of green transformation for traditional steel enterprises.

The lake transforms into a 'blue power plant'

Jinnan Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Jinnan Iron and Steel Group) has built a 130MW photovoltaic power station in Taizi Lake, Linfen City, Shanxi Province. The station has been stably connected to the grid for 40 days and has accumulated over 18 million kWh of electricity. As one of the top 50 global steel companies and the top 20 Chinese steel companies, this traditional steel company with the highest electricity consumption in Linfen City is achieving green transformation through its new energy layout.

The project fully utilizes the advantages of lake water resources and innovatively adopts an automated photovoltaic cleaning cycle system, which saves maintenance costs by more than 60% compared to traditional manual cleaning methods. The effective utilization rate of photovoltaic panels has been increased to 98.3%, setting a new record for the average annual utilization hours of photovoltaic power stations in Linfen City. The water power station with a total investment of 200 million yuan can produce about 200 million kWh of clean electricity annually, which is equivalent to meeting the annual electricity demand of 100000 households.

Government enterprise linkage creates' Linfen speed '

In the stage of grid connection, State Grid Shanxi Linfen Power Supply Company broke the norm by deploying 207 meters across cities and organizing a technical team to complete the calibration of 99 transformers on site. Multiple departments such as marketing and regulation work together, and the process from application acceptance to full capacity grid connection only takes 8 days, which is 70% shorter than the average cycle of similar projects. The project implements a three-dimensional development model of "surface power generation and underwater fish farming", which can save about 100 million yuan in electricity expenses for Jinnan Iron and Steel Group on an average year. The environmental benefits are equally significant, equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 157000 tons per year, or the carbon absorption of planting 850000 trees, providing replicable samples for China's high energy consuming industries' low-carbon transformation.
