On July 1, 2024, the first steam generator of the nuclear island of Haiyang Nuclear Power Unit 3 was successfully hoisted into place, marking a phased victory in the installation of the core equipment of the unit.

The steam generator is the hub of the first and second circuits of the nuclear power unit. It converts the heat generated by the core into steam, transports it to the conventional island through the main steam pipeline, and drives the steam turbine to drive the generator to generate electricity. Each unit contains two steam generators, each with a diameter of about 5.6 meters, a length of about 24.3 meters, and a net weight of about 667 tons. It is the heaviest and largest main equipment in the main circuit of the nuclear island reactor.

The steam generator has gone through multiple processes from horizontal transportation to precise placement, including horizontal hoisting, rotation erection, and precise centering. Shandong Nuclear Power and its units adhere to the principle of one-time excellence, use laser three-dimensional measurement technology for simulation and analysis, and ensure the completeness of prerequisites through sand table simulations and daily coordination meetings, strictly control on-site safety and quality, and successfully achieve precise hoisting and placement.

The successful lifting and precise positioning of the steam generator marks a major progress in the construction of the nuclear island. It not only paves the way for the full connection of the main circuit of the nuclear island reactor, but also lays a solid and stable foundation for the smooth capping of the subsequent reactor building. It is a key step in promoting the entire nuclear power project forward.Editor/Zhang Liyuan
