On May 10, 2026, CGN Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power Project Unit 4 began pouring the first tank of concrete for the nuclear island, marking the official start of the main project of the unit and the comprehensive construction of the second phase of the Taipingling Nuclear Power Project.

The Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power Project is the first nuclear power project in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area to adopt China's self-developed third-generation nuclear power technology, the Hualong One. According to the average utilization hours of domestic nuclear power in 2025, it is estimated that the annual power generation of Unit 4 will exceed 9 billion kilowatt hours after completion, which can meet the annual production and living electricity demand of about 1 million people. The raft foundation of the reactor building poured this time is a cylindrical body with a radius of 27 meters and a height of 3.7 meters. The total amount of concrete poured is about 8600 cubic meters, and it is expected to be continuously constructed for about 60 hours.
Since the start of the construction of the Taipingling Nuclear Power Phase II project, the project team has been led by independent innovation, comprehensively promoting modular, mechanized, automated, intelligent, and inherently safe construction, and has implemented more than 700 improvement measures. Among them, the on-site 3D joint design center has achieved a one click connection between design drawings and construction data. The steel bars and pipelines are arranged in the model first and then constructed according to the order. At the same time, multiple new technologies such as the optimization of the integrated construction plan for door frames and the optimization of the construction organization for nuclear island raft foundations have been applied for the first time in CGN's nuclear power projects, accumulating replicable experience for the mass construction of Hualong One. The Taipingling Nuclear Power Project plans to construct six Hualong One nuclear power units, which will be built in three phases. Currently, four units have been approved. Unit 1 of the project was put into operation and started generating electricity on April 20, 2026. Unit 2 completed its first nuclear fuel loading work on May 3, 2026, officially entering the stage of nuclear commissioning. Unit 3 started its main construction on June 10, 2025, and has now entered the peak period of civil engineering. The overall construction work is steadily progressing.Editor/Cheng Liting
