Recently, China National Chemical Engineering Tianchen Co., Ltd. officially signed an EPC general contracting contract for a 45,000-ton-per-year metallurgical silicon project with El Alamein Silicon Industry Company in Egypt.
As the "pioneering work" of Egypt's strategic transformation towards green energy, this project will fill the gap in the upstream of its photovoltaic power generation industry chain and silicon-based new material industry chain. It also marks a milestone breakthrough achieved by China National Chemical Engineering in the field of new energy materials and silicon-based new material engineering in Africa. It has created a new cooperation model integrating "technology + standards + industry" between China and Egypt, providing a practical sample for the in-depth integration of the Belt and Road Initiative and Egypt's "Vision 2030".
The 45,000-ton-per-year metallurgical silicon project signed this time by Tianchen Co., Ltd. and El Alamein Silicon Industry Company (a subsidiary of Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company) adopts a semi-closed rotary submerged arc furnace and uses silica and low-ash coal as raw materials to produce high-grade metallurgical silicon, filling the gap in a key link of the photovoltaic industry chain and laying a solid foundation for the subsequent construction of the solar cell industry chain.
With the implementation of this project, Egypt is expected to accelerate the formation of a complete photovoltaic industry chain of "silicon material - silicon wafer - solar cell - module", and it is estimated that it can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than one million tons per year.
