The opening ceremony of the Ribu Bridge project in Sarawak, Malaysia, which was constructed by a Chinese enterprise, was held in Bintulu, Sarawak on March 23. The state's first double-tower, double-cable-plane cable-stayed bridge with two-way four lanes was officially put into use. People from all walks of life in Malaysia said that the opening of the bridge will help improve the connectivity level in eastern Malaysia.

Douglas Uggah Embas, Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak, Malaysia, delivered a speech at the ceremony, stating that the Ribu Bridge will become an important landmark of Bintulu, effectively improving the travel efficiency of local people, and is expected to bring more economic benefits to the area, especially in promoting the development of local tourism.

It is reported that the main line of the project is approximately 3.6 kilometers long, of which the total length of the bridge part exceeds 1.2 kilometers. The project is invested and constructed by the Sarawak state government of Malaysia. The owner is the Sarawak Public Works Department, and it is constructed by China Communications Construction (Malaysia) Co., Ltd. The construction began in April 2019.

After the opening ceremony, the bridge was officially opened to traffic. Reporters at the scene saw that many local people couldn't wait to drive onto the bridge to experience it first. Many others strolled on the bridge with their families, leaning against the railing to admire the beautiful scenery where the water and the sky merged, and taking family photos as souvenirs.

"We couldn't wait to experience driving on the bridge and enjoy the sea view," local resident Johari bin Sidi told reporters. With the official opening of the Ribu Bridge, the commuting time between the two banks has been significantly shortened, greatly facilitating the transportation of local residents.

Project Manager Liu Yonghui told reporters that the Ribu Bridge is a key control project of the coastal avenue project in the Sarawak region, undertaking multiple missions such as economic development, transportation upgrading, and people's livelihood and well-being. Since the start of the project, in the face of challenges such as extreme weather, complex geological conditions, and the impact of the construction area intersecting with the main urban roads, the team has always adhered to the construction standards of excellence and made every effort to advance the project progress.

Lee Kok Tian from Sarawak joined the team as a safety officer since the early stage of the project. "During the project construction period, I used to walk around the construction site every day to ensure safe operations," Lee Kok Tian said. "Now that the bridge has been successfully opened to traffic, I feel extremely proud." The Ribu Bridge in Sarawak is a special and historically significant gift that will promote local economic development. It is hoped that more construction projects will come here to help attract talents and drive the regional economic development. (This article is from the official website of Seetao.com, www.seetao.com.
