Sichuan Construction Mechanization Engineering Co., Ltd. (Sichuan Machinery Company) recently won the bid for the renovation and expansion project of Punta Verde International Airport in Nicaragua, with a contract amount of approximately 1.1 billion yuan. As a key project for China and Nigeria to implement the achievements of the third "the Belt and Road" International Cooperation Summit Forum, the project will build more than 60000 square meters of terminal buildings, viaducts and other facilities, increase the annual passenger throughput to 3.5 million person times after completion, and become an important aviation hub in Central America.
The project is jointly promoted by Huaxi Group and Zhonggong International, covering more than 20 individual buildings such as the Presidential Building, cargo terminal, and air traffic control tower. This is one of the largest airport renovation and expansion projects undertaken by Chinese enterprises in Central America, marking a new breakthrough in China's infrastructure "going global" strategy in the Latin American market. Sichuan Machinery Company will rely on the construction experience of over 100 airports in China and use BIM technology to achieve digital construction. After the project is completed, it will significantly improve the development level of Nicaragua's tourism and logistics industry.
This winning bid demonstrates the comprehensive competitiveness of Chinese enterprises in the international infrastructure market. Experts point out that the implementation of this project will drive the output of Chinese standards, technology, and equipment, and lay the foundation for future cooperation between China and Nepal in transportation, energy, and other fields. At present, Sichuan Machinery Company has established a special risk assessment team to develop prevention and control plans for political, exchange rate and other risks in Latin America.
