On March 31st, China Energy Engineering Corporation and Northeast Institute successfully signed the EPC general contract for the Batam Island Green Synthetic Ammonia Project in Indonesia, marking the first large-scale landing of China's green hydrogen production technology in Southeast Asia. The project will construct a 240MW photovoltaic power station (including surface photovoltaics) and a green synthetic ammonia facility with an annual output of 37500 tons. The products will be directly supplied to the Singapore industrial market by sea.

Three major technological breakthroughs in the project:

1. Adopting an efficient electrolytic cell with independent intellectual property rights, the conversion efficiency of photovoltaic hydrogen production exceeds 75%

2. Innovate the "modular containerized" ammonia synthesis device, shorten the construction period by 30%

3. Develop adaptive solutions for tropical island environments to address the challenges of high humidity and salt spray corrosion

Significant economic and environmental benefits:

Reduce CO ₂ emissions by approximately 600000 tons annually, equivalent to 36000 hectares of forest carbon sinks

Drive local new energy industry chain investment exceeding 500 million US dollars

Provide zero carbon chemical raw materials for Singapore to help it achieve its 2050 carbon neutrality goal

China Energy Engineering Corporation stated that this project is a key outcome of its "International Hydrogen Energy Strategy", which integrates "technology+standards+equipment" to form a replicable Southeast Asian hydrogen energy development model. The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mines evaluated that the project will promote Batam Island to become a regional green energy hub and accelerate the ASEAN energy transition process.
