On April 23, China and Azerbaijan signed the Joint Statement of the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Azerbaijan on the Establishment of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The statement pointed out that the two sides are willing to actively expand cooperation on renewable energy, contribute to the energy transition and sustainable economic and social development of the two countries, and jointly promote the construction of a global clean energy partnership.

During the visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to China, Azerbaijan signed six renewable energy cooperation agreements with Chinese companies.

1. Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, SOCAR Green LLC, China Datang Overseas Investment Co., Ltd. and PowerChina Overseas Investment Co., Ltd. on the development of a 2GW offshore wind power project in the Azerbaijani waters of the Caspian Sea.

2. Investment agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Mangal Energy for the 100MW solar power plant project in Gobstan.

3. Implementation agreement between the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, China Datang Overseas Investment Co., Ltd. and SOCAR Green LLC for the evaluation, development and implementation of a 100MW floating solar power plant and a 30MW battery energy storage system project on Lake Boyukshor.

4. Implementation Agreement between the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, PowerChina International Investment Co., Ltd. and SOCAR Green LLC on the evaluation, development and implementation of a 160MW solar power plant project.

5. Implementation Agreement between the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan and China Energy Overseas Investment Co., Ltd. on the evaluation, development and implementation of offshore wind energy projects.

6. Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan and the China Electric Power Planning and Design Institute on renewable energy development and power system planning.
