On July 7, 2025, the Baltic Power offshore wind farm, jointly developed by Poland's Oren Group and Canada's Northland Electric, completed the installation of its first 15 MW wind turbine. The project has a total installed capacity of 1.2 GW and plans to install 76 Vestas V236-15.0 MW turbines. It is expected to be fully operational by 2026 and will become Poland's first commercially operated offshore wind farm. The installation work is being carried out by the Danish company Kader, whose Wind Osprey self elevating installation vessel is responsible for transportation and lifting tasks. The captain is over 160 meters long, with a lifting capacity of up to 11000 tons, and can carry three complete turbine units at once, including towers, blades, and engine rooms. All 76 turbines will be transported from the port of Rennes in Germany to the Baltic Sea in Poland for installation. The Vestas V236-15.0 MW unit adopts 115 meter ultra long blades, with a total height of over 260 meters and an annual power generation capacity of up to 80 gigawatt hours per unit. The top structure of the wind farm tower is made of recycled steel, reflecting the sustainable concept of the project.Gezegorz Sablinski, Chairman of the Management Committee of the Polish Baltic Power Company, stated that once all 76 turbines are put into operation, they can meet the electricity needs of over 1.5 million households annually.

Despite the enormous challenges faced by the project, its successful implementation will significantly accelerate Poland's energy structure transformation process. Part of the turbine nacelle will be produced at the new Vestas factory in Szczecin, Poland, and localized manufacturing will further enhance supply chain efficiency. At present, the project team is synchronously advancing multiple key projects: the installation of offshore foundations and transition sections continues, and the laying of array cables and output cables will be launched within the year; The operation and maintenance base located in Verba, Poland's coastal province has started construction in April 2025 and will provide operational support for up to 30 years in the future.Jens Poulsen, the project director of Baltic Power Company, emphasized that as one of the first projects in the world to apply 15 MW units on a large scale, it faces extremely high difficulties in logistics planning and maritime coordination. At present, there are about 15 engineering ships working together to ensure the grid connection as scheduled in 2026. According to calculations, the annual power generation of this wind farm can reach 4 terawatt hours, accounting for about 3% of Poland's national electricity demand, and can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 2.8 million tons per year.

The Polish government plans to achieve a target of 11 gigawatts of offshore wind power installation by 2040. The Baltic Sea Power Project, as a leading demonstration project, will provide important technical experience and industrial support for the country's renewable energy development.(This article is from the official website of Jian Dao www.seetao.com.
