A special time capsule placement ceremony was recently held on the vast grasslands of Pavlodar, Kazakhstan. With the sealing of the capsule, one of the largest renewable energy projects in the country and even the entire CIS region, a 1-gigawatt energy storage wind power plant, has officially been launched. This is not only a breakthrough in energy infrastructure, but also a vivid footnote to the deep cooperation and joint layout of regional energy transformation between China and Kazakhstan on the green power track.

The project is jointly implemented by Samruk Energy, a subsidiary of Kazakhstan National Fund, and China State Power Investment Corporation, with a total investment of approximately 1.2 billion US dollars. It is planned to officially enter commercial operation in 2029. The core competitiveness of this green power giant lies in its unconventional configuration: in addition to its massive wind power installation, it has also built an energy storage system with a scale of 300 MW/600 MWh, including about 76 advanced liquid cooled battery packs. This golden combination of wind and energy storage can effectively smooth out the volatility of new energy generation, achieve all-weather stable power supply, and directly address the pain points of local green power development.

For Kazakhstan, which is currently in a critical period of energy structure transformation, this project not only means an increase in clean electricity, but also brings tangible economic dividends.
According to estimates, the construction period will create over 1000 job opportunities for the local area, and during the decades long operation period, it will also provide about 50 high-tech permanent positions. This cooperative model of teaching people how to fish has received high recognition and policy support from the governments of China and Kazakhstan. Keywords: new energy, wind power

Nurlan Zakubov, Chairman of the Samruk Kazyna Management Committee, pointed out at the ceremony that the project is not only an important step for Kazakhstan to move towards a green future, but also a model for international cooperation and the introduction of advanced technology. As the time capsule is deeply buried in this wind energy rich area, a strong green heart is being nurtured.Editor/Cheng Liting
