Chinese enterprises are actively participating in the construction of African ports, injecting new momentum into local economic development. From West Africa to East Africa, modern ports have sprung up and become an important engine for Africa's economic take-off.
In West Africa, the Lekki Deep-water Port in Nigeria, invested and constructed by China Harbor Engineering, will be officially put into operation in 2023, with an annual handling capacity of 1.2 million TEUs, greatly improving Nigeria's maritime capacity. The Port of Abidjan in Côte d'Ivoire has been significantly increased in throughput after the expansion of China Communications Construction, consolidating its position as the largest port in West Africa. With the help of Chinese enterprises, the Tema Port of Ghana has completed the expansion and built four new berths of 150,000 tons to provide strong support for regional trade.
Port construction in East Africa has also been fruitful. The Port of Mombasa, Kenya, has been upgraded by China Road and Bridge Corporation and cooperated with the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway to form a new model of "MTR intermodal transport". Djibouti's Dohare multi-functional port was built by China State Construction, with an annual throughput capacity of 7.08 million tons, making it an important logistics hub in Northeast Africa. As a key project of the Belt and Road Initiative, Ram Port has opened up a new channel to the sea for many countries in East Africa.
Elsewhere, the Cabinda Cayo deep-water port project in Angola is under construction, with an estimated annual throughput of 5.8 million tonnes and will contribute significantly to the local economy. These port projects have not only improved the efficiency of logistics in Africa, but also created a large number of jobs and driven the development of related industries.
The port construction of Chinese enterprises in Africa fully embodies the cooperation concept of "extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits". Through infrastructure construction, China has built a bridge for African countries to connect with the world and written a new chapter in China-Africa friendship. In the future, with the implementation of more cooperation projects, China-Africa economic and trade cooperation will surely move to a higher level.(This article is from the official website of Seetao www.seetao.com.
