The Indian steel industry has recently experienced significant developments. India's Jindal Steel and Power Limited has announced that it has officially changed its name to "Jindal Steel Limited" (JSL) with the approval of the Companies Registry of the Indian Government's Department of Corporate Affairs, effective from July 22, 2025. This renaming marks the company's further focus on the development strategy of its core steel business.
On the same day, Indian government officials disclosed that Jindal Steel Chhattisgarh Limited (JSCL), a subsidiary of the renamed Jindal Steel Limited, had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chhattisgarh government. According to the agreement, the company will invest $12.13 billion (approximately RMB 87.4 billion) to build a comprehensive steel and energy project in Chhattisgarh.
The investment plan shows that the project subject is a green steel plant with an annual production capacity of 7.5 million tons, with an investment amount of approximately 8.4 billion US dollars (about 60.5 billion yuan). The supporting energy project includes the construction of three 800 MW thermal power plants and one 500 MW solar power plant, with a total investment of approximately 3.73 billion US dollars. The Indian government stated that the project will create a large number of job opportunities and effectively promote the industrial development and economic transformation of Chhattisgarh.

Public information shows that Jindal Steel Limited is an important private steel enterprise in India, with an annual crude steel production capacity of 7 million tons. The company's products include hot-rolled coils, cold-rolled coils, galvanized steel, and wire rods. In 2023, the company's actual crude steel production reached 8.01 million tons, accounting for 6% of India's total steel production.
Industry insiders analyze that this large-scale investment will not only enhance the market competitiveness of Jindal Steel Limited, but also promote the green transformation of the Indian steel industry. By constructing supporting energy facilities, this project is expected to achieve low-carbon development in steel production and set a new benchmark for sustainable development of India's manufacturing industry.
