The Iraqi government and China's Shanghai Electric Group are in in-depth negotiations on a large-scale power project with a total installed capacity of 10 GW. This cooperation will significantly enhance Iraq's power supply capacity and effectively alleviate the country's long-standing power shortage. The project is expected to cover various forms of power generation such as coal, gas and renewable energy, and the specific implementation plan is still being further agreed.

As a leading energy equipment manufacturing enterprise in China, Shanghai Electric has rich experience in the field of power engineering construction. The company has recently been active in the Middle East market and has reached a number of cooperation agreements with energy companies in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other countries. If the 10 GW project with Iraq is successfully implemented, it will become one of the largest power projects in which Chinese companies participate in countries along the Belt and Road.

Iraq's electricity minister said that the project will effectively promote the diversification of the country's energy mix, meet basic electricity needs, and create a large number of jobs and promote local economic development. It is reported that Iraq's current installed power capacity is about 26 GW, but the actual available capacity is much lower than this, especially during the peak summer electricity consumption period, when the power shortage is particularly prominent.

Analysts pointed out that this cooperation not only reflects the competitiveness of Chinese enterprises in the field of international energy engineering, but also marks the further deepening of cooperation between China and Iran under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. As negotiations continue to advance, this $10 billion power project is expected to inject strong impetus into Iraq's energy transition, and will also open up a broader space for China-Iran economic and trade cooperation.(This article is from the official website of Jiandao www.seetao.com it must not be reproduced without permission, otherwise it will be investigated, please indicate Jiandao.com + original link for reprinting) See Dao.com International Column Editor/Gao Xue
