ACWA Power, an energy company headquartered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, announced that its three large-scale solar projects have officially obtained commercial operation certificates, with a total installed capacity of 2.79 GW. This important progress marks a substantial breakthrough in Saudi Arabia's promotion of renewable energy layout. According to information disclosed by ACWA Power on the Saudi securities trading platform Tadawul, the three projects have been certified by their respective project companies. Among them, the first batch of 1GW capacity of ArRass2 photovoltaic project led by Nawwar Renewable Energy Co. has been put into commercial operation. The total capacity of the project is 2 GW, located in the Kassem region of central Saudi Arabia.
At the same time, SAAD 2 Photovoltaic Project Company has also obtained its commercial operation certificate for 365.7 MW capacity, promoting the project to achieve full load operation of all 1125 MW. In addition, the Al Kahfa solar photovoltaic project located in the Ha'il region of northwestern Saudi Arabia has also obtained 1425 MW full capacity commercial operation certification from Ishaa Renewable Energy Co.
ACWA Power holds 50.1% equity in all three project companies mentioned above. The company stated in the announcement that the financial contributions of these projects are expected to begin to be reflected in the second half of this year. In July 2025, a consortium led by ACWA Power signed seven Renewable Energy Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Saudi Electricity Procurement Company, including five solar project agreements with a total capacity of up to 15 GW. This single-stage signing set a new record in the global renewable energy sector.

In September 2024, ACWA Power successfully raised $2.6 billion from a banking consortium for three solar power projects in Saudi Arabia with a total capacity of 5.5 GW, demonstrating high market confidence in its clean energy plan. Saudi Arabia has set a goal to increase the proportion of renewable energy in the national energy structure to 50% by 2030. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), as of the end of 2024, Saudi Arabia's cumulative installed solar capacity has exceeded 4.2 GW.
It is worth mentioning that earlier this week, a consortium consisting of Masdar from the United Arab Emirates, GD Power from China, and Korea Electric Power Corp. also completed financing arrangements for Saudi Arabia's 2 GW Al Sadawi solar project, further highlighting Saudi Arabia's important position in the global energy transition.
