On June 10, 2026, on the mudflat along the coast of Rudong, Jiangsu Province, a piece of photovoltaic panels with a total capacity of 400000 kilowatts will be orderly arranged and spread towards the sea. The newly completed project here is the largest scale integrated offshore photovoltaic demonstration project for photohydrogen storage in China - the Guohua Investment Jiangsu Rudong photohydrogen storage integration project, invested and constructed by Guohua Investment Company, a subsidiary of the National Energy Group.

Pioneering electric hydrogen storage closed-loop system
The project is the first in China to establish a full chain green energy closed-loop system consisting of photovoltaic power generation, energy storage peak shaving, and green hydrogen production. A new 400000 kW photovoltaic power station will be built, along with a 220 kV shore based booster station. A specialized hydrogen production station with a hydrogen production capacity of 1500 standard cubic meters per hour and an electrochemical energy storage power station will be constructed to completely break the traditional operation mode of offshore photovoltaic single power generation.

Cracking industry pain points
Surplus green electricity can be stored in energy storage systems or used for hydrogen production through electrolysis of water, greatly improving the on-site consumption rate of offshore green electricity and effectively solving industry pain points such as intermittency, volatility, and difficult consumption of new energy. The project prioritizes the integration of high-quality photovoltaic power into the power grid, and utilizes surplus power in a graded manner to provide important peak shaving support for the stable operation of the regional power grid. Innovative Ecological Governance
The project innovates and practices the green development model of power generation on board and restoration under board, carries out ecological restoration of coastal mudflat while developing new energy, improves the ecological environment of mudflat, and recovers benthos population. This project provides a replicable and promotable benchmark for the large-scale, intensive, and ecological development of new energy in coastal areas across the country.Editor/Gao Xue
