China Energy Engineering Group and the government of Kazakhstan recently signed an investment and power purchase agreement, investing 320 million US dollars to build a 300 MW solar power plant in the Sauran region of southern Kazakhstan. The project was signed during the 8th Kazakhstan China Business Council Meeting held in Beijing and is planned to commence construction between 2025 and 2026.
The project is located in Sauran District of Turkestan region, which is one of the important measures for Kazakhstan to promote energy transformation and achieve the 2060 carbon neutrality goal. As a country with abundant sunshine resources in Central Asia, Kazakhstan is actively attracting foreign investment to develop solar energy resources and reduce its dependence on traditional fossil fuels.

In recent years, China Energy Engineering Group has continued to deepen its layout in the Central Asian market and actively participated in the construction of energy infrastructure in countries along the Belt and Road. This investment not only reflects the engineering strength of Chinese enterprises in the field of new energy, but also marks the substantive implementation stage of China Kazakhstan cooperation in green energy.
This project is expected to effectively enhance the local clean energy supply capacity, provide support for the optimization of Kazakhstan's energy structure and regional economic development, and also lay a solid foundation for Chinese enterprises to expand into the Central Asian market.
