Venezuelan Minister of Transport Ramon Celestino Velasquez Arayan announced that the 307 kilometer freight railway line connecting the Batara de Arore intermodal terminal, Acarigua and the Port of Baquisimeto, and ultimately reaching the largest port in the Caribbean Sea, Cabello Port, will resume operations as soon as repairs are completed, but the specific timetable has not yet been determined. The line has been dormant for many years and needs to solve technical problems and complete large-scale repair projects. Currently, the engineering team is advancing the acceptance of key links.

If the project is implemented, it will become Venezuela's first freight railway to resume operation in nearly five years, significantly improving domestic logistics efficiency. Juan Carlos Romero, President of the export promotion agency Emcoex in Lara State, pointed out that the restart of the railway line will provide low-cost and efficient export channels for industries such as manufacturing and agriculture that rely on railway transportation, accelerate the customs clearance process of goods, and help enterprises expand into international markets. At present, only the Caracas Vales del Tui passenger line south of the capital remains operational in Venezuela, while semi completed projects such as the new passenger line connecting Valencia, Maracay, and Caracas in the central region are still on hold due to funding and technical issues.

The repair of the freight railway is regarded as a landmark project for the revitalization of Venezuela's infrastructure. Its successful implementation will not only alleviate the pressure of road transportation and reduce carbon emissions, but also potentially inject development momentum into the country that has long been plagued by international sanctions and economic recession by activating the radiation effect of port economy.Editor/Cheng Liting
