The first rail river sea intermodal train from Liuzhou South Station slowly entered the Six Scenic Area of Nanning Port, and 10 containers loaded with special cement were steadily unloaded. This batch of goods produced by Yufeng Group will be directly loaded onto cargo ships and arrive at Yangpu Port in Hainan after the Pinglu Canal is officially opened.

As the deadline for the completion and navigation of the Pinglu Canal on September 16, 2026 approaches, the first national level coordinated Tongjiang Dahai Canal in New China is undergoing the first batch of landing tests for "railway canal sea transportation" multimodal transport.

In the first half of 2026, the container shipment volume of Guangxi's rail sea intermodal transportation increased by 27% year-on-year, and the new rail river sea intermodal transportation channel will further push the efficiency of southwest outbound logistics to a new level.

Customized solution adapted for bulk cargo transportation

China Railway Nanning Bureau has tailored a 20 foot universal container transportation plan from Liuzhou South Station to the Six Scenic Area of Nanning Port based on the transportation characteristics of bulk goods such as cement, completely changing the old model of enterprises relying on customer self pickup shipping and multiple transshipment and reshipment.

In the past, special cement shipped from Liuzhou required at least 3 storage connections and a transportation cycle of over 7 days. Now, relying on new channels, it can be transported from one box to the end without the need for secondary unpacking and transfer. The transportation time is directly reduced by 40%, and the comprehensive logistics cost is reduced by more than 20%.

Full chain dedicated team ensures efficient connection

China Railway Nanning Bureau has established a dedicated service team, established a full process tracking mechanism, coordinated railway transportation, highway short haul and port loading and unloading processes, refined loading operation standards, and significantly reduced waiting time for each link.

After the official opening of the Pinglu Canal, the 134.2 kilometer 5000 ton waterway will directly connect the Xijiang River and the Beibu Gulf with the sea. In the future, China Railway Nanning Bureau will further expand the category of multimodal transport goods, launch value-added services such as logistics general contracting and full process agency, and promote closer integration of the production and supply chain between the southwestern hinterland and the ASEAN market. From the factory production line in Liuzhou to the port terminals in ASEAN, a new logistics chain connecting railways, inland rivers, and sea transportation is gradually taking shape with the opening of the Pinglu Canal, injecting new circulation power into the outward oriented economy of Southwest China.Editor/Cheng Liting
