Recently, Romania's energy sector has seen significant progress in cooperation. Domestic power distribution giant Electrica and national natural gas company Romgaz have officially signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop renewable energy generation and storage projects with a total installed capacity of 400MW. This cooperation ceremony, witnessed by Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan, marks a substantial step forward for Romania in promoting the transformation of its energy structure.

According to Electrica's announcement on the Bucharest Stock Exchange, both parties will rely on specialized investment tools to promote the implementation of the project. Electrica will lead the project implementation as the main developer, while Romgaz will participate in the cooperation as a strategic minority shareholder. The announcement emphasizes that the two companies will fully leverage the synergies between operations and energy production, accelerate the construction process of renewable energy projects through technological complementarity and market resource integration, and jointly contribute to the achievement of Romania's green energy transformation goals.

Electrica, as an important power distribution enterprise in Romania, serves 40% of the country's territory and has approximately 4 million customers. At the same time, it has accumulated rich experience in the photovoltaic field. As of now, the company has a portfolio of approximately 300MW photovoltaic projects, of which 46.5MW has been put into operation in 2025. According to Electrica's development plan, the company plans to achieve 1GW of renewable energy installed capacity and 900MWh of energy storage capacity by 2030. CEO Alexandru Aurelian Chiri ă referred to this collaboration as a key milestone in the company's 2030 strategy, emphasizing that both parties will directly promote the achievement of national renewable energy goals through the deep integration of financial and technological resources.

Romgaz CEO R ă zvan Popescu also has high hopes for cooperation, stating that it is an important measure in the company's energy transformation strategy. Romgaz will further consolidate its core position in Romania's energy security system by investing in clean energy projects, demonstrating the active role of traditional energy enterprises in the green transformation process.
