As an important component of the newly added National Highway G653 in the "National Highway Network Plan" and "Guizhou Province's 14th Five Year Plan for Transportation Development", the G653 Kaili Riverside to Kaili Highway Expansion Project is a key project for upgrading the regional road network. The starting point of the project is located in Daxi Village, Banghai Town, at the border of Kaili City and Huangping County. It connects with the planned G653 Shibing Yangliutang to the end of the Banghai Highway, passing through multiple villages and towns such as Wangyin, Kafang, and Shuizhu. The end point is at the intersection of Wengshao Road in Kaili City, connecting with the already built G653 Wengshao to Liangxiao Highway.

The total length of the project is 31.246km. The whole line is reconstructed and expanded according to the technical standards of second-class highway. The design speed is 40km/h, and the subgrade width is 8.5m. The first 6-7km section is mainly pavement widening and reconstruction. The project covers multiple fields such as roadbed, pavement, bridges and culverts, route intersections, drainage protection, traffic engineering and facilities along the line, environmental protection and greening, with an estimated investment of 437.71 million yuan.

The advancement of this project will bring multiple benefits. From a transportation perspective, as an important passage between Kaili City and Banhai Town, the completion of the project will significantly improve the traffic efficiency and safety factor of the original road, and solve the problem of insufficient traffic capacity on existing road sections. From the perspective of regional development, the project will further optimize the transportation pattern in the northern part of Qiandongnan Prefecture, strengthen the rapid connection between towns and central urban areas, provide convenient conditions for the travel of people along the route, transportation of agricultural products, and development of tourism resources, and help promote the linkage of local industries and high-quality economic development. The 728 day construction plan means that the goal of upgrading regional transportation will gradually be achieved within two years, laying the foundation for the subsequent completion of the G653 national highway.
