In October 2025, Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. successfully held a naming and delivery ceremony for two 174000 cubic meter large liquefied natural gas (LNG) transport ships, the "Mihezem" and "Dongshani," built for the Qatar Energy Project in Shanghai. These two ships are the 8th and 9th LNG carriers built by Hudong Zhonghua for the Qatar Energy Project, and also the first batch of ships delivered to Malaysia International Shipping Company, marking a new important breakthrough for China in the high-end shipbuilding field.
The two LNG ships named this time adopt the world's leading fifth generation "Changheng" series design, equipped with the latest generation of dual stern fin lines, and equipped with multiple low-carbon energy-saving and intelligent digital technologies. The ship has a total length of 299 meters, a width of 46.4 meters, and a depth of 26.25 meters. It has overcome multiple technical difficulties in design and has significant advantages such as fast performance, low comprehensive energy consumption, good low-temperature performance, and wide cabin compatibility. At the same time, it performs excellently in terms of empty ship weight, cargo capacity, handling and operation, and route matching. Its energy consumption indicators, environmental performance, and reliability have all reached the international top level.

At the naming ceremony, Hong Bo, Director of the International Business Service Development Department of China Classification Society, attended as a special guest. The shipowner and shipyard representatives highly praised the professional technical services and strict quality control provided by the China Classification Society surveyors during the project construction process. It is reported that the Shanghai branch of China Classification Society has completed the construction and inspection of more than 40 LNG transport ships in recent years, established an experienced professional inspection team, and continuously improved its inspection capabilities, winning wide recognition from the international shipping industry.
