DB InfraGo, the German Federal Railway Infrastructure Company, recently announced that it will invest an additional 4 billion euros in special funds in Bavaria in 2026, which will come from the newly established infrastructure special fund of the federal government. This is another important measure taken by the company following its ongoing major upgrade plan for the railway network.

According to the plan, this additional investment will mainly be used for the modernization of the core railway network in Bavaria, including the comprehensive update of 500 kilometers of tracks and the technological upgrade of more than 200 turnout switches. The specific project will focus on the enhancement and renovation of the S2, S4, and S7 lines of the Munich light rail system, while covering the Argau regional railway network connecting important cities such as Lindau, Augsburg, Nuremberg, Munich, and Ulm.
Dr. Philip Nag, CEO of DB InfraGo, said, "This additional investment has increased our annual investment scale in Bavaria by 10%. Combined with existing line renovation, station construction, and expansion plans, 2026 will become a landmark year for Bavarian railway infrastructure construction

Christian Bernwright, the Minister of Housing, Construction and Transport of Bavaria, responded to this by saying, "The continued investment of the Federal Railways in the Bavarian railway network is a positive signal, which is urgently needed at present." He particularly emphasized that "while focusing on the construction of high-capacity transportation corridors, it is necessary to simultaneously promote projects that have entered a critical stage, such as the electrification project of the Franconia Saxony main line, and strengthen investment in rural branch railways, which has equally important strategic significance

DB InfraGo stated that the project plan for 2026 will continue and expand on the successful experience of completed projects this year, especially the upgrade project model implemented in the Weidenfels network and the Upper Palatinate region, to ensure the continuity and synergy of the modernization construction of Bavarian railways. This series of investments will significantly enhance the railway transportation capacity and service quality in the region, injecting new impetus into building a more efficient and sustainable German railway network.Editor/Cheng Liting
