Recently, the S10 Jiuquan Suzhou to Mazongshan Expressway project, led by Gansu Provincial Highway Transportation Construction Group Co., Ltd., has officially started construction in Suzhou District, Jiuquan City. As the main channel and landmark project of the "Three Major New Highways" in Gansu Province, the implementation of this project marks a crucial step for Gansu to promote the construction of the Western Land Sea New Channel and improve the provincial road network structure.
The S10 SuMa Expressway connects the G7 Jingxin Expressway to the north, the G30 Lianhuo Expressway to the south, and the Mazongshan Port to the west. It is a key project in the "networking, network supplementation, and chain strengthening" of the expressway network in Gansu Province. Its construction will effectively connect the transportation links between Gansu, Xinjiang, and Inner Mongolia provinces, and build important resource and energy channels that radiate to Mongolia. It has profound strategic significance for enhancing the regional synergy of the Hexi Corridor Economic Belt and ensuring the safety of energy and resource transportation in the western region.

The total investment of the project is 17.881 billion yuan, with a total length of 363.5 kilometers, making it the longest expressway constructed in one go in Gansu Province. The route starts from the border between Suzhou District and Gaotai County in Zhangye City, passes through Suzhou District, Jinta County, Yumen City, and ends at Mazongshan Town in Subei County. The entire route adopts a two-way four lane standard and is designed for a speed of 100 kilometers per hour.
The project includes the construction of 162 bridges, 625 culverts, 14 interchanges, 11 toll stations, 9 service and parking areas, and 4 maintenance work areas. The project is planned to have a construction period of 3 years and an operation fee period of 30 years.
The Su Ma Expressway passes through a 280 kilometer long uninhabited area in the Gobi Desert, making it the longest construction project in Gansu Province to cross such an area. The climate along the route is extreme, saline soil is widely distributed, and the ecological environment is fragile. It faces multiple challenges such as water scarcity, difficulties in material transportation, roadbed salt expansion, wind and sand erosion, and seasonal floods.
To cope with complex construction conditions, Gansu Public Transport Construction Group has joined forces with 19 domestic and foreign enterprises, integrated high-quality resources, strengthened technological breakthroughs and element guarantees, strictly controlled quality, safety and progress, and is committed to building the project into a demonstrative and high-quality project that can withstand inspection. The construction of the Su Ma Expressway will greatly improve the transportation conditions in northern Gansu, strengthen regional connectivity, promote the improvement of the functionality of the Mazongshan Port, and facilitate resource development and industrial synergy along the route. As an important part of the new land sea channel in the west, the project not only improves the pattern of Gansu's opening to the north, but also injects new impetus into the joint construction of the the Belt and Road and high-quality development of regional economy.Editor/Cheng Liting
