Recently, CAF Signal Company and Cellnex Telecom jointly announced that they have successfully completed the validation of CAF's Optio CBTC (Communication based Train Control) system on a private 5G network deployed and managed by telecommunications infrastructure operators. This breakthrough is regarded by the industry as an international milestone, marking a new round of upgrade in communication technology for train control systems.

CAF Corporation stated that the validation project has undergone rigorous testing in both laboratory and field environments, making it one of the first projects in the world to successfully demonstrate the efficient and stable operation of CBTC systems on private 5G infrastructure. The company further pointed out that the integration of Optio system with 5G technology is a true 'paradigm shift'. The 5G network brings ultra high speed data transmission, extremely low latency, multi service integration, and operator controlled network security assurance to train control, which together build the communication foundation required for the next generation of train control systems.

Compared to traditional Wi Fi or LTE networks, private 5G networks provide a more unique, reliable, and highly secure communication environment. This advantage enables railway asset managers and operators to integrate various infrastructure more conveniently, optimize system architecture, and achieve unprecedented operational efficiency improvement and cost savings.

Alfonso Alvarez, CEO of Cellnex Spain, emphasized in his review of the project: "The fundamental goal of this project is to achieve ultra-low latency, high-capacity 5G connectivity integration in key railway sections, including tunnels, through research and innovation, thereby comprehensively improving operational safety, efficiency, and reliability, and fully preparing for the challenges of future smart transportation. ”Keywords: International News and Information, International News Network

It is reported that this forward-looking project has received support at the EU level, with joint funding provided by the EU's Recovery and Resilience Fund (RRF) within the framework of the "Unico Industry 2023 Plan". This successful verification not only sets a technological benchmark for the digital and intelligent transformation of railway operations, but also points out the direction for the evolution of wireless communication in global rail transit.Editor/Cheng Liting
