On the vast grasslands of Inner Mongolia, a large-scale energy storage power station is about to be built. On November 24, 2025, the China Power Construction Sunshine Procurement Network announced the winning candidates for two energy storage system equipment procurement projects, with a total scale of 500MW/2000MWh. Two new energy enterprises, Chongqing Wanbangxing Charging Energy Co., Ltd. and Shanxi Yaoxing New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., were selected for the procurement project. This significant procurement marks another solid step forward for China in building a new type of power system.
2GWh large order split, two companies win the bid separately
This bidding includes two sections, both of which are important components of the 2025 New Energy Storage Special Action for the Xilingol East Su Substation of China Power Construction Corporation. The large-scale 475MW/1900MWh energy storage system equipment procurement was pre awarded by Chongqing Wanbang Star Charging Energy Co., Ltd., while the 25MW/100MWh section was pre awarded by Shanxi Yaoxing New Energy Technology Co., Ltd.

These two projects together form a centralized grid type energy storage power station with a total installed capacity of 500MW/2000MWh, which will adopt advanced lithium iron phosphate battery technology. The total land area of the project is about 220 acres, with an estimated total investment of about 1.7 billion yuan. It is planned to complete the land acquisition and the construction of supporting facilities such as the energy storage power station, booster station, and transmission line in one go.
Grid based energy storage technology enhances grid stability
As a power side energy storage project, the grid type energy storage technology adopted by this power station has attracted much attention. Compared with traditional grid following technologies, grid based energy storage can actively support grid voltage and frequency, providing stronger stability support in the event of grid disturbances, and is particularly suitable for application in power grids with a high proportion of renewable energy.
This technological feature is highly compatible with the energy structure of Xilingol League, where the project is located. The region is rich in wind and solar energy resources, and in recent years, the installed capacity of new energy has grown rapidly. The construction of large-scale energy storage facilities is of great significance for ensuring the safe and stable operation of the power grid and promoting the consumption of new energy.

Accelerating energy storage construction to assist in energy transformation
The large-scale procurement of energy storage equipment by China Power Construction is a microcosm of the rapid development of China's new energy storage industry. With the continuous growth of new energy installed capacity, the construction of supporting energy storage facilities is accelerating. A storage capacity of 2GWh is equivalent to providing continuous power supply for tens of thousands of households, and will play an important role in power grid peak shaving, frequency regulation, backup power supply, and other aspects.
The construction of this project will not only help improve the regulation capacity of the local power grid and promote the consumption of new energy, but also accumulate valuable experience for the design, construction, and operation of large-scale energy storage power stations.
