As a key project of the national "14th Five Year Plan" and the core carrier of the world-class airport cluster in the Yangtze River Delta, the fourth phase expansion project of Shanghai Pudong International Airport has recently announced the results of multiple bidding sections. Industry giants such as Shanghai Construction Engineering Group, Shanghai Baoye, China Communications Third Harbor Engineering Group Co., Ltd., and Beijing Jinghang An have entered the market, with a total investment of 36.2 billion yuan in the core section. This event, which can be regarded as the largest transportation infrastructure feast in Shanghai's history, marks a new stage of comprehensive construction for Pudong Airport's upgrade to a "world-class aviation hub". It is expected to form a super hub pattern of "3 terminals+1 satellite hall+5 runways" after its completion in 2028.

The winning bid covers the core areas of the project, presenting a pattern of "leading by leaders and specialized division of labor": Shanghai Construction Engineering Group has won key bid sections such as the main project of the terminal area, the operation management center, and the municipal supporting energy center. The bidding price for the operation management center exceeded 560 million yuan, and the winning bid for the energy center project was nearly 480 million yuan, becoming the core construction force of this expansion project; The airfield project is constructed in sections by enterprises such as Shanghai Baoye, Shanghai Highway and Bridge (Group), and Beijing Jingang Airport Road, involving key content such as airport roads and ancillary facilities, taxiway extensions, etc. The maximum duration of a single section is 929 calendar days; Beijing Jinghang An Airport Engineering Co., Ltd. won the bid for the procurement project of visual navigation assistance and power supply and distribution system for the flight area with a total amount of 57.9889 million yuan, providing core technical support for airport operation. The gathering of numerous infrastructure leaders will provide a solid guarantee for the high-quality promotion of the project.

The fourth phase expansion project of Pudong Airport adopts a "2+6" overall structure, with T3 terminal area and flight area as the two main bodies, supporting six major systems including freight, municipal, energy, and metro, with a total construction area of over 1.96 million square meters. As the core of the project, Terminal 3 has a designed capacity of 50 million passengers and adopts a "dual main building integrated configuration". International and domestic flights are operated in different zones, and efficient transfer is achieved through an X-shaped corridor. After passenger security check, the farthest walk to the international boarding gate is only 8.5 minutes, and domestic routes are shortened to 6 minutes. Among the 90 nearby stands, 31 are convertible stands, setting a record for domestic airports. The architectural appearance is designed with the concept of "soaring", echoing the existing T1 "spreading wings" and T2 "soaring" shapes, becoming a new landmark of Shanghai's gateway.

In terms of smart and green transformation, this project can be regarded as a benchmark in the industry. The T3 terminal will achieve full process self-service, allowing domestic passengers to "clear customs with one face" when leaving the country. Passengers who check in and check in remotely at the Yangtze River Delta city terminals do not need to go through secondary procedures, and the 60 minute transfer target will greatly improve the efficiency of the hub; At the same time, based on the dual certification of "Green Samsung" and "Healthy Airport", we reduce energy consumption through refined design such as natural lighting and intelligent ventilation, and create a "courtyard style garden terminal building" to create a rooftop green leisure space between the two main buildings. The project has also established a full cycle digital construction system, achieving integrated management from survey and design to operation and delivery. At the same time, a "Airport Builder Town" covering an area of 246000 square meters has been constructed, which can accommodate tens of thousands of builders during peak periods and demonstrate the humanistic temperature of super engineering.

It is reported that the fourth phase expansion project of Pudong Airport will start in January 2022. After winning the bid for multiple sections, it will fully enter the construction phase. After the completion of the project, the total area of the Pudong Airport terminal will exceed 1.7 million square meters, with an annual passenger throughput of 130 million and a cargo and mail throughput of 6 million tons, equivalent to creating a "new Pudong Airport". The rise of this super hub will not only meet the medium and long-term development needs of the base airlines, but also strengthen the radiation of the world-class airport group in the Yangtze River Delta, provide stronger aviation support for regional connectivity and national opening up, and write a new chapter in the construction of Chinese path to modernization airports.Editor/Bian Wenjun
