Morocco has taken a strategic step in the field of renewable energy. The government of the country recently signed an investment agreement worth $861 million with GPM Holdings of the United States to build Morocco's first polysilicon manufacturing plant in the southern province of Tantan. This major initiative will promote Morocco's transformation from a renewable energy application country to a core material manufacturing country.

According to the information released by the Moroccan Ministry of Investment, this milestone factory will be located in the El Ouatia industrial zone. As the most upstream core link in the photovoltaic industry chain, the factory plans to have an annual production capacity of 30000 tons, of which up to 85% of the products will be exported, marking Morocco's official entry into the high-value link of the global photovoltaic material supply chain.
GPM Holdings, as the investment entity of this project, is a well-known photovoltaic system integrator in the United States and a key partner of GPM, a Moroccan green energy company. It is worth noting that GPM itself is a joint venture with Amea Power, a leading renewable energy company in the United Arab Emirates, which gives the project a dual advantage of North American technology and Middle Eastern capital. Last year, GPM successfully completed a 34 MW solar project in southern Tangier, laying a solid foundation for this deeper collaboration.
The construction of this polysilicon factory is expected to create 1500 direct employment opportunities and drive over 2000 indirect employment opportunities. More importantly, it will greatly enhance Morocco's industrial position in the field of renewable energy. By mastering the manufacturing capability of polycrystalline silicon, the core material of solar panels, Morocco is building a complete industrial ecosystem from material production to photovoltaic power generation.
