From Gaoming in Foshan to Gaoyao in Zhaoqing, this border area spanning the two cities is finally about to welcome the landing of 'wings in the sky'! "On November 25, 2025, with the concentrated release of three core bidding announcements, the preparation for the construction of the new airport in Guangzhou, the hub of the Pearl River Delta, entered the sprint stage. This super hub, which carries the aviation dream of the Zhuxi region and has a total investment of over 50 billion yuan, is planned to officially start construction on December 30 and is expected to be fully completed and put into use by the end of 2030, completely ending the current situation of 'long-distance airports and inconvenient travel' in the Zhuxi region.

The infrastructure map of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area adds another heavyweight work

As a cross regional major infrastructure connecting Genghe Town in Gaoming District, Foshan and Jiaotang Town in Gaoyao District, Zhaoqing, the new airport is located about 80 kilometers away from Guangzhou and forms a "dual hub" layout with a straight-line distance of 95 kilometers from Guangzhou Baiyun Airport. It has been highly anticipated since the planning stage. For the citizens of Zhuxi who have long relied on long-distance airport travel, this is not only the rise of an airport, but also the realization of their desire to take a plane at their doorstep; For the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, this is a crucial step in optimizing the air transportation pattern and strengthening regional coordinated development.

The total project duration is planned to be 60 months. This phase of construction focuses on the T1 terminal and supporting facilities, with an overall terminal building area of 325000 square meters (including 260000 square meters of T1 terminal). The long-term plan will expand to 370000 square meters. The building adopts the characteristic shape of "unfolding wings", which not only demonstrates the openness and inclusiveness of the Greater Bay Area, but also takes "efficient transfer and green environmental protection" as the design core: the centralized main building with a finger gallery configuration allows 128 parking positions to be orderly distributed, greatly reducing the walking distance for passengers; The three-dimensional structure of 2 underground floors and 4 above ground floors enables seamless transfer with four rail transit systems including Guangzhou Zhanjiang High speed Railway and Shenzhen Nanjing High speed Railway. The peripheral "Five Horizontals and Five Verticals" expressway network covers key passages such as Guangzhou Kunming Expressway and Pearl River Delta Ring Expressway, truly creating a comprehensive transportation hub of "air rail intermodal transportation and road air complementarity".

According to the long-term plan, by 2050, the airport is expected to achieve an annual passenger throughput of 60-80 million and a cargo and mail throughput of 2.2 million tons, attracting over 2 billion yuan in aviation industry chain investment. The construction of the new airport in Guangzhou, the hub of the Pearl River Delta, from an empty land to an "aerial engine", will not only fill the gap in aviation resources in the Pearl River Delta region, but also inject lasting momentum into regional industrial upgrading and high-quality economic development, becoming a new benchmark for connectivity in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.Editor/Bian Wenjun
