In the context of the in-depth promotion of the "the Belt and Road" energy cooperation, Shanghai Electric successfully won the general contracting right for the expansion project of the combined cycle gas turbine power plant in the Euphrates River basin in Iraq, a new version of the picture of China's intelligent manufacturing expanding the Middle East market. At present, the project has entered the construction phase in an all-round way. With Chinese technology, Chinese standards and Chinese equipment, it has injected strong impetus into the upgrading of Iraq's power infrastructure, becoming another benchmark project for China Iraq production capacity cooperation.

The project covers the existing power plants in the four provinces of Najaf, Karbala, Hilla, and Qadisiyah in Iraq. The core construction content is to upgrade and transform the original single cycle gas turbine generator units in the area into an efficient combined cycle system, with a total expanded installed capacity of 625 megawatts. It is a key project in Iraq's post-war power reconstruction plan. As one of the first power projects in Iraq to fully adopt China's complete technology solution, Shanghai Electric will lead the project design, core equipment supply, civil construction, installation and commissioning, and subsequent operation and maintenance services, fully leveraging its full industry chain advantages in the field of gas turbine power generation.

The application of combined cycle technology has become the core highlight of the project: after the transformation, the power generation efficiency of the unit will be increased by more than 50% compared to the original single cycle mode, and the annual clean power generation can be increased by about 5 billion kWh, which can effectively alleviate the long-standing power shortage problem in central and southern Iraq, meet the electricity needs of millions of people for production and daily life, and reduce the local dependence on imported energy, promoting the optimization of energy supply structure. At present, the site leveling and civil foundation construction of each section of the project have been completed. Core equipment such as the main gas turbine, steam turbine, and generator have been delivered to the site and started lifting operations. The international construction team established by Shanghai Electric strictly follows local construction norms and environmental standards to ensure that the project progresses as planned.

This cooperation is a deep integration of China and Iran in the field of energy infrastructure, and also an important practice for China's power engineering technology standards to go international. Shanghai Electric, with its rich experience in large-scale gas turbine combined cycle projects, will tailor an efficient, reliable, and environmentally friendly power solution for Iraq. After the completion of the project, it will not only greatly enhance the power supply capacity of Iraq's national power grid and improve regional energy layout, but also create thousands of job opportunities for the local area, helping to promote post-war economic recovery and improve people's livelihoods.
