In Wuhan, where the Yangtze River meets the Han River, a transportation artery with a total investment of 33.74 billion yuan is poised to take off. On December 10, 2025, the construction bidding for the Wuhan Hub Direct Line project was officially launched. The estimated bidding contract price for the control project - the main bridge section and the joint construction section of the Baishazhou Highway and Railway Yangtze River Bridge - is about 4.7 billion yuan, marking that this key project of the national "Eight Verticals and Eight Horizontals" high-speed railway network along the river is about to enter the substantive construction stage. As the core project connecting the Yangtze River high-speed railway channel and the Wuhan West high-speed railway, this transportation mainline with a total length of about 83.6 kilometers (including 72.2 kilometers of new lines) is planned to start construction in December 2025, with a total construction period of 5 years, which will reshape the transportation pattern and economic development network of Central China.
Double layered mega structure carrying four line high-speed railway crossing natural barriers
The first project to be launched this time is the "throat" project of the entire project - the innovatively designed Baishazhou dual-purpose Yangtze River Bridge for public and railway transportation. The bridge adopts a three-dimensional layout of an upper level two-way six lane urban expressway and a lower level four line high-speed railway. Its main bridge length is 2623 meters, and the combined section of public and railway on both sides is 1189 meters.

The scope of this bidding includes the first and second line railways of the bridge and the corresponding upper level highway engineering, with an estimated total contract price of 4.7 billion yuan. As a key node of the Wuhan hub direct line crossing the Yangtze River, this bridge is not only a new urban landmark of Wuhan in the future, but also a core physical link that completely connects the national high-speed railway network along the river and achieves efficient connection of the Wuhan West high-speed railway. Its engineering scale and technical complexity reflect China's leading strength in the construction of large-scale cross river dual-use bridges for public and railway transportation.
Hanyang New Station rises to become the largest regional high-speed rail gateway
The other core of the project is the construction of Hanyang Station, the main and main station of the Wuhan Railway Hub, which will be a key milestone in the layout of the "Five Main and Three Auxiliary" railway hub in Wuhan. The recent construction scale of the station is 7 sets of 12 tracks, with a station building area of 80000 square meters; The long-term plan is to expand to 13 stations and 24 lines, with a station building area of 150000 square meters. At that time, it will become one of the largest and most comprehensive high-speed rail hub stations in Wuhan and even the middle reaches of the Yangtze River urban agglomeration. In conjunction with the newly built Xiaogan South Station, the project will systematically reconstruct the layout of the Wuhan high-speed railway network, effectively divert and alleviate the long-term transportation pressure faced by Hankou Station, and ultimately achieve seamless connection and efficient transfer of multiple national trunk lines such as the Wuhan West High speed Railway, the Wuhan Kowloon High speed Railway, and the future Beijing Guangzhou High speed Railway Link within the hub, comprehensively enhancing Wuhan's core level as a national comprehensive transportation hub.

Cracking bottlenecks and reshaping regional spatial and temporal patterns
The construction of the Wuhan hub direct line will bring significant improvements in transportation efficiency. The line design standards are advanced, with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour for the section from Yunmeng East to Zoumaling and 250 kilometers per hour for the section from Zoumaling to Huangjiahu. After the completion of the project, it will fundamentally solve the bottleneck problem of some trains on the Wuxi high-speed railway that need to detour around Hankou Station for corner transportation. According to calculations, the train running time from Xi'an to Jiujiang in the future can be saved by about 20 minutes. According to the forecast of transportation volume, the daily operating train pairs of the project will reach 94 to 132 pairs in the long term (2050), and 78 to 114 pairs in the short term (2040). This will not only significantly enhance the overall transportation capacity of the high-speed rail corridor along the Yangtze River, but also strengthen Wuhan's radiating and driving role in the urban agglomeration of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, promote regional economic integration and coordinated development, and is an important step in promoting the construction of a comprehensive three-dimensional transportation corridor in the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
By constructing the Wuhan hub through line, China's high-speed rail network has achieved strategic improvement at key nodes in the Yangtze River Economic Belt. This major project with an investment of 33.74 billion yuan will not only solve the long-standing transportation bottleneck problem, but also elevate Wuhan's position as a transportation hub to a new height. In the next five years, with the completion of the Baishazhou Public Railway Bridge and the opening of Hanyang Station, Wuhan will become one of the core hubs connecting China's east-west, north-south high-speed railway network. This project demonstrates China's comprehensive strength in the construction of large-scale transportation infrastructure and also reflects its strategic vision of promoting regional coordinated development through infrastructure connectivity.
